Today’s message is brief, but gives you something to reflect upon and think about as you move throughout the week ahead.

Have you made your daily deposit?

Have you put in the work today? Those are your daily deposits — just like making financial deposits into your banking institution will grow your wealth and investments, your proverbial deposits into your personal and professional accounts are required for you to make progress.

Progress and change hinge upon your daily deposits; daily action towards achieving your goals and aspirations. Whether it’s your workout routine, workplace, or personal goals, if you aren’t making daily deposits, you probably aren't seeing the results you desire. Consistency is key to any progress you seek to make. These actions (deposits) can be big or small (or anywhere in between) it’s not about the size of the action taken rather that it is being made. Most goals worth making, those that really push you to become better, require consistent action to attain.

Are you putting in your daily deposits?

Every day in our classrooms, we make deposits into different accounts. Sometimes those accounts are our learners, sometimes they are our colleagues, or even our own accounts. No matter the account, the accumulation of those deposits is what matter. So how do we make these deposits? What does it look like?

Think about your learning plans each day, your conversations, even your body language as deposits being made. Are those deposits (actions) helping you, your learners, your colleagues, and your institution grow? Or are you making withdrawals in those accounts? We’re looking for growth, accumulation, we’re looking for progress.

Just like our financial deposits, they might grow slower than we would hope — but this greatly depends on the work we put in. You can’t cash in if there’s nothing in the account. Some days the work might come easily, some more difficult, just as some days you will be able to deposit more than others — the important piece is that you are making those deposits daily, that consistency will yield results.

What goals are you working on currently? What deposits did you make today? How are your accounts and investments looking?

Right now, my deposits for personal and professional growth look like writing every day, lifting weights every day, drinking enough water, having meaningful conversations, and creating authentic connections between content knowledge/skills and the world around us. All of these deposits are helping me with my larger goal of earning my PhD.

The deposits, the work happens every day — and I am banking on my own success (see what I did there) in order to better serve the greater world of education.
